( Ah, he was kind of hoping that Gilbert would be in but alas, it's just the bully. Not that Break can see it but he gives the room a cursory glance like maybe the tall turtle is hiding under the bed or something but he doesn't see anything! And if he doesn't see anything... it probably isn't there or is very good at hiding because he's one of the best scouts in the army, you know? )

I know. ( He's been there before? ) He wasn't in so I was wondering if maybe he was in here! Or if you'd seen him...

Seen him~? It's not very nice to point out peoples' disabilities, you know~.

[ But by that light, airy tone, Break isn't actually offended... He's just giving Urashima a hard time since that's what Break does. He sits up a little straighter, but then reaches to the side table to grab Emily, who takes her usual roost on his shoulder. How does it stay there? It is a Mystery. ]

Knowing him, he's probably either cooking or outside smoking if he's not in his room. He's predictable that way~.

( Clearly, Emily stays the same way Kamekichi stays on Urashima's shoulder despite being in a constant state of sleep... )

Ah... sorry?

( He's sorry?! He didn't mean to? He'd never pick on an old man. He's a respectful sword spirit who treats elders well AND WHAT IS HE EVEN APOLOGIZING FOR... )

I know, I know... I normally see him in the kitchen. ( And normally Urashima takes advantage of it to get an easy meal because hahaha how does he cook? How does he feed himself? He doesn't know he's tired of toast. ) But I don't know... ( When he sees him, it isn't for every long. When they talk, he ollies out pretty fast. It's like he's always trying to stay away. ) You're his friend, right? Even though you pick on him all the time?

... Is Mr. Gilbert... okay?

[ Break can't help but grimace when Urashima calls him Gilbert's friend, even though he had said so himself... Part of him definitely regrets saying such a gentle-hearted thing so early in the game if only because now he'll have to live it down for the rest. What a pain!! ]

...I suppose so.

[ That part is definitely grumbled reluctantly, but it's followed by a sigh that he uses to recompose himself. ]

Well, he's his normal, gloomy self, more or less. Ah, probably gloomier, now that I think about it~.

( Please, Urashima would have figured it out on his own easily enough. Gilbert checked his eye? And they're always around each other... )

Really?

( He sounds surprised to hear this! And Urashima looks down, contemplative about the answer he's just received and his own observations. It's then that Break adds the second part of his answer and things make a little more sense. )

I thought he was weird last week... but everyone was a little weird, you know? But then after the trial and now... he's still avoiding me, I think.

( He's naive and innocent, not dumb. He can tell when people are acting strange and he can tell when people are trying to keep their distance. He's really sensitive to it because he's never quite been in a situation like this before. It's jarring and weird and it leaves him feeling troubled. )

I was wondering if something was wrong or ( and his voice drops some, to just above a whisper, ) if he's mad at me.

( To which he then looks up at Break and asks, )

Can you tell me what's wrong? Please?

[ So that's what this is about? Break grimaces, but this grimace is entirely different in quality. It's not at being called a friend, but this one is because he's an awful babysitter, so this kind of concern is probably one of the things that Break is the poorest at actually dealing with and therefore giving advice on. He makes a discontent noise, but then waves his hand idly towards Urashima. ]

He's not mad at you. But why are you asking me? I'm not his keeper.

[ He kind of is, though. And Gilbert is his. It's mutually beneficial (?). ]

Because you're friends so I thought you'd know.

( He says simply and easily like it's the most obvious conclusion to possibly come to. Look, the "watch anime" thing went over his head at the trial but he's figured it out by now! If Break was truly a good for nothing bully, Gilbert wouldn't have checked his eye, would he? Or maybe he would have... Gilbert is a kind turtle. )

But you mean it? He's not mad?

( And he's cheering up?! This is good news. He's never had to deal with someone being mad at him before and he's glad that he still doesn't have to deal with it. )

I sincerely doubt it. The sorts of things Gilbert gets mad over are...

[ He trails off with a sigh, because he's not even going to explain, honestly. Break can bully him for a decade and Gilbert still only gets to vague annoyance, and anger only tends to come when someone threatens Oz, now that he thinks about it. Gilbert really is a pushover. ]

Well, it doesn't matter. The point here is that he wouldn't be mad at you. It's probably the opposite, honestly~. You have a personality that's annoyingly familiar to someone we know.

[ Did Break really have to add "annoyingly" there? Absolutely. He can't be nice for even like five seconds. ]

( He gives Break a surprised sort of look. Really, Gilbert hasn't mentioned much about where he's from at all except for something about a Duke that loves eccentric things so this comes as a shock to him.

Someone familiar? That's the second time Break has mentioned this to him. He'd said it a few days before, hadn't he? And he touches his forehead because he can still feel it even if it wasn't a hard tap or anything like that. He's a sword, okay, he remembers touch is the strongest sense tied to his memory. )

The person you mentioned before? ( He isn't asking for an explanation, really, since this is none of his business but he wouldn't deny being curious. He's quiet for a second, taking this in and wondering if this is a good thing. Yes, there are people here who remind him of people from back home and he thinks that's nice most of the time... but after all this time here, the affiliation is a little hard at times. It makes him want to protect them more and it makes it harder when they get hurt. It makes him miss home and when he thinks of home, he thinks of his brothers and he begins to worry. ) . . . I didn't mean to.

( He won't apologize but he can't help but sound apologetic.

And he also gets the feeling that Break doesn't want to be the mediator for all of this so he tries to cut to the chase, )

Is that why he doesn't stay when I'm around, then?

[ Break nods ]

Mm, that's right~. You two have a rather similar outlook on life, I'd say. Though Oz is more of a hellion than you are.

[ This isn't even rude, it's just factual. Oz bullies Gilbert just as much as Break does. Actually, almost more, since Oz is making up for lost time. That's what Break would guess, at least. He sighs, then waves a hand in Urashima's direction. ]

Oz is Gilbert's master. Gilbert is very... [ creepy ] devoted to him.

( Well, dang, this sure did get awkward and he shifts uncomfortably to himself. Really, there's a lot that Urashima doesn't understand here but he still feels sorry for Gilbert. He's such a nice person... the idea that Urashima reminded him of someone important back home feels sorry. )

...He must think about him a lot already.

( And doesn't need any other reminders. He feels rude for prying like he had because this wasn't something he needed to know. Rubbing his arm awkwardly, he wonders if Break is going to say anything else about this person. Hopefully he won't because it isn't his business but just in case, he let's Break know that he's been told enough, )

Sorry, I didn't mean to pry. ( With a small bow (not that Break can see), he adds ) But thank you for telling me, Mr. Break.

[ Why is he apologizing? At least the first one Break had goaded him into lightly, but now it just makes things more awkward. It gets him to pause in his light-hearted teasing, and Break hesitates before he just ends up sighing and dropping his hand back to his side. ]

You're not prying.

[ He almost tells Urashima to stop apologizing, but he doesn't quite go that far. Instead, he does feel a nagging feeling to explain a little further. ]

I'm the one that told him to be careful. Just practically speaking, most of us are going to die. [ It's blunt, almost callous, but at least that sing-song tone is gone. Break is pragmatic, and he feels like his pragmatism is partially to blame here. Maybe this is his form of an apology in a way. ]

Gilbert... cares a lot for others. I told him to be careful not to get too close to people for that reason, and that's just how he's chosen to do it, most likely. It's nothing personal.

( Except it does feel like prying when Gilbert himself never said anything to him about any important person. And now he feels like he's gone around him and gotten the information out of Break... he's innocent enough that this feels manipulative about this? )

Twenty-nine. ( That is, if only seven people are guaranteed a chance to go home. He did the math a long time ago and while he doesn't like to think about it, it doesn't change the fact that those are the statistics. A lot of people are going to die and in his opinion, most of them are (and have been) good people. ) If only seven people can go home.

( So, he knows and understands what Break is saying. He acts like a child and in a lot of ways, he is one, but he's not hopelessly unaware. That said, it isn't a topic he wants to talk about, not when there are so many still alive. He can accept the idea of something bad happening but actually discussing it? The only thing worse is actually enduring it.

Nor, does he really want to talk anymore about Gilbert when he isn't around. It feels wrong to him and he's quiet in response for a long time, wondering if he should just leave now and the best way to do that. )

... How is your eye?

[ Break is actually a bit surprised again, since he hadn't actually expected Urashima to be just as aware of the numbers as he was. It wasn't quite that he thought that he was stupid, but it was simply an unpleasant truth. He wouldn't hold it against people too much for wanting to deny it, but Break simply can't ignore it. So he nods, though he doesn't say anything else to that. There's nothing he'd quite to say to Urashima on that topic anyways.

Though the question that follows isn't quite a surprise. It gets him to smile, and he shrugs it off easily. He's a bit dismissive about it, but that's just also something he doesn't want to tread too deeply into. That's just ultimately more personal in a painful way that he's reluctant to share with even the people he considers dear friends. ]

Ahh, it'll be fine~. Don't worry about me. It's obviously seen worse, you know~.

I don't know~.

( And just like that, Urashima bounces back, trying to copy Break's sing-song sort of speech right there.

He's playing around because I mean... clearly, if he lost an eye, it's seen worse but look, he doesn't know Break's life he doesn't know Break's story and he doesn't want to know because then he'd probably be wondering where the heck was the Sword Army to stop Break's bad decisions when he needed them. )

Mmm! I'm going to go look for Mr. Gilbert now, okay?

( That sure is a hasty sort of retreat back out the door and he'll start to close the door but stop, opening it up wide again real quick to say loudly, )

And if you need any help let me know! At least, until your eye is better, al~right? Don't take advantage of just Mr. Gilbert because he's really nice, got it?

( He doesn't even wait for an answer before he really leaves. )
